November - 10 December
Get
the Power
Get the Knowledge
Keep the Promise
Each year
from
November 25 to December 10,
16 days of activism
against gender violence is organized all over the world to raise
people's awareness on all forms of violence against women.
In Malaysia
since 2000, WAO began to organise public education campaigns with Rapid
KL (formerly known as PUTRA LRT & SPNB)
Since 2004,
WAO began collaborating with Malaysian
Aids Council (MAC), Sisters
In Islam (SIS), Amnesty International,
Malaysia (AIM).
In 2005
the campaign is joined by 2 other groups; Women's
Centre for Change, Penang (WCC Penang), and Kata
Gender.
We will launch at the
Berjaya Times Square and go outside the Klang Valley, this time going
to Ipoh and Seremban.
The
16 day period is an annual event in all parts of the world to create
a solidarity movement which raises awareness around gender - based violence
as a human rights abuse, works to ensure better protection for survivors
of violence and a call for its elimination.
Objectives:
- To
raise awareness on the issue of violence against women and the several
forms of violence against women through multiple forms: art, posters,
performance, postcards, brochure etc
- To
enlist public support for reform on laws related to Rape
- To
meet with the public and engage with them on the issue of violence
against women and to urge the public not to ignore the issue.
Get
the knowledge, Get the power,
Keep the promise
Urge
government to keep the promise and deliver law and policy reform
Urge
women to keep the promise to themselves to keep safe and reject violent
men in their lives
Urge
men not to use violence to control women.
