Women's Film Festival
About
the Festival
Held
in conjunction with the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence,
this debut film festival from December 5th to 7th 2003, is made possible
through collaboration with The Stonor Centre.
The
film festival is just one of the many events that have been lined-up
for the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence. We feel that powerful
and thought-provoking movies such as the The Accused, The Color Purple
and Malena have empowering messages and portray the various forms of
violence against women that need to be addressed and dealt with.
For
enquiries regarding seat booking, please call The Stonor Centre at 03-21419620.
Please join us in our other events planned for the 16 Days of Activism
Against Gender Violence or call us
at 03-79563488.
Programme
THE
ACCUSED
December 05th 2003 (Friday)
7pm
(1 hr 51 mins)
Synopsis:
What are the limits of justice? Of social responsibility? The Accused
takes a powerful and though-provoking look at human nature and individual
moral conscience, and a judicial process that treats the victim like
a criminal. When hard-living, fiercely independent Sarah Tobias is gang-raped
in the back of a neighbourhood bar, she and her attorney go after both
the attackers and the onlookers whose cheering fuelled and encouraged
the assault. Starring: Jodie Foster and Kelly McGillis.
THE
COLOR PURPLE
December 06th 2003 (Saturday)
7pm
(2 hrs 34 mins)
Synopsis:
This film follows the life of Celie, young black girl growing up in
the early 1900s. The first time we see Celie, she 14-years-old and pregnant
- by her father. We stay with her through the next 30 years of her tough
life and unbreakable spirit. Starring: Whoopi Goldberg, Oprah Winfrey,
Danny Glover and Margaret Avery
MALENA
December 07th 2003 (Sunday)
7pm
(1 hr 49 mins)
Synopsis:
This is the tale of a young boy coming of age in war-torn Italy
and the beautiful widow that changes his life forever. Malena is an
intimate portrait and an epic story of courage discovered, innocence
surrendered and the memories that last a lifetime. Starring: Monica
Bellucci, Giuseppe Tornatore and Giuseppe Sulfaro
Movies
will be screened from 7pm-9pm. Admittance is free.
