The Joint Action Group for Gender Equality (JAG) is appalled that private, sexually intimate photos of Elizabeth Wong, Assemblyperson for Bukit Lanjan, Selangor, was taken and circulated without her consent. These photos are being released at a time when the tussle for power between Barisan National (BN) and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) is increasingly intense. "...elements like shuffle dancing ... can lead to social ills amongst youngsters."
So said Penang State PAS Youth chief Mohamed Hafiz Mohd Nordin during a peaceful protest against the I-Dance street dancing competition by about 400 Muslims within the compound of the Kampung Rawa mosque on 19 Dec 2008 . The competition was to be held on 20 Dec 2008 at the New World Park and on 27 Dec 2008 at Queensbay Mall, Penang (a northern state in Malaysia).
In response to the protest, Penang state's Youth and Sports Committee chairman, Lydia Ong Kok Fooi then agreed to the condition that Muslim male and female participants will not be allowed to mingle with each other during the competition.
