WAO's Anak Angkat (Child Sponsorship) Programme
APPEAL FOR CHILD SPONSORS
The WAO Anak Angkat programme was set up to help former women and children of the WAO refuge who have decided to live independent lives after leaving the WAO refuge. The Programme began in 1985 as a pilot project and has been running ever since.
Many of the women who come to the Women's Aid refuge are unemployed or in low paid jobs. They are often financially dependent on their abusive partners for their own needs and those of the children. By helping to support the daily living costs and school expenses of a child, you help reduce the financial burden on women and children as mothers seek and establish themselves in work. You provide much needed support to women and children victims of violence as they build their lives again.
Sadly, there are always children on the waiting list for the Anak Angkat Programme and WAO is appealing for sponsors to support its continuance.
The monthly sponsorship is RM70* per month per child and goes towards items such as school uniforms, books and stationery, milk etc. We hope that you will commit to helping a child for a full year at RM860.00* (inclusive of an administrative fee of RM20). WAO also welcome one-off donations to the Anak Angkat Programme Fund.
You will receive updates of the child(ren)'s progress at school over the year, and general news about how they are getting on. We also hold an annual party to which all children and their sponsors are invited, providing an opportunity for you to meet each other, and have some fun.
If you would like to sponsor a child, please download the Child Sponsorship Form, and send it to us via email or at the address below:
P.O.Box 493, Jalan Sultan 46760 Petaling Jaya Selangor, Malaysia.
Please do contact us if you have any queries or would like more information about the Programme.
Due to the rising cost of living, we have revised the sponsorship to RM100 per month (RM1,200 per year) per child. This increase is immediately effective for the upcoming Anak Angkat term which will begin in July 2015.
