3R celebrates International Women’s Day this year with the theme “Equal Rights, Equal Opportunities , Progress For All”.

Supported by UNICEF, 3R is also collaborating with JAG (Joint Action Group for Gender Equality) which consist of All Women’s Action Society Malaysia ( AWAM), Women’s Aid Organisation ( WAO), Sisters In Islam (SIS) dan Empower.  

The main objectives of this celebration are:

1.  To provide a platform for agencies to come together to hold such activities to empower women, including government offices, non-governmental organizations, corporate bodies, media and youths.

2.     To create awareness and educate the public on women’s and children’s rights.

3.   To share the importance of our rights and equal opportunities given to all no matter what gender, skin colour or culture so that progress can be achieved together.

4.    To attract law makers’ attention to the need of equal rights and opportunities for women in all sectors.

This year’s celebration’s concept is festival in the park, which will be held at Central Park Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya on 13th March 2010, Saturday starting from 12noon to 8pm. There will be various interesting activities planned to create the public’s attention. These activities are:

Solidarity Walk – Estimated about 1,000 participants (which consist of members of the public, students, non-governmental organisation) to participate in this 2KM solidarity walk around Bandar Utama, whilst carrying banners with messages such as “Equal Rights, Equal Opportunities , Progress For All”. The warm up session will be led by trainers from Celebrity Fitness.

Projek Sentuh (Body and Sexuality) – This activist project will be highlighting issues on sexual discrimination in Malaysia through it’s theatre performance and exhibition.

Booths by NGOs and 3R – Throughout the festival also, NGOs and 3R will be opening booths for the public. This is to give guests an opportunity to obtain information on women’s issue, how to be a volunteer and how to get help if one face related problems.

Bazaar – We will also be bringing you, Threadszoo Bazaar, a series of flea market which is very popular amongst the young people today. Threadszoo Bazaar will be featuring unique stalls selling pre-loved items, cup cakes, handicrafts and many more!

Activities with 3R Hosts – The hosts of this festival, Tini, Celina and Rafidah will also conduct fun and interactive activities with guests. Join us for Q&A sessions and also gender games with your favourite celebrities.

Charity Concert – There will also be great performances by our local artists for this celebration with 3R bringing positive message to empower women. Performers are Extreme Malaysian All Stars (E.M.A.S), B Boys with special appearance by Alam, the champion of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ Season 1, a rap group TRS, Jin Hackman & Shazet Beatboxer, One Nation Emcees, Aizat, Vince Chong, Lah Ahmad, Dayang Nurfaizah and Azlan & The Typewriter .
